Class ACT

For excellence in artistic collaboration and programming, Class ACT won the New Jersey After 3 Promising Practices Award for its work in Glassboro, NJ. A community collaborative project with local youth organizations that makes the arts accessible for the organizations' members and allows them to create original theater pieces based on their life experiences. Public speaking, reading, writing, teamwork and leadership skills are emphasized. Play in a Day Festival

"Imagine that you are going to see a play tomorrow, but you have no idea what it is. Now imagine that the actors, directors, and playwright have no idea too! Learning Stages is ecstatic to share with the community a theatrical recipe for fun, excitement, and fresh theatre: 5 directors, 5 playwrights, 14 actors, 24 hours. Anything can happen." John Perovich, Playwright.

"Learning Stages is taking the production process and cramming into 24 hours. It forces the artists involved to make quick, instinctual choices, and this often leads to the most exciting work. No one has time to over think the art-making process, so the stories that are created and the characters that emerge are genuine, truthful, and very much alive." Joe Salvatore, Learning Stages Artistic Director.

This project is not a new adventure for Learning Stages although with new actors, directors and playwrights it feels new. Learning Stages is introducing new types of theater to Gloucester County residents. Learning Stages has a variety of characters involved with this festival. The contributors are made up of Learning Stages, formerly Gloucester County summer Drama Workshop, alumni, staff, family, friends and local community members as well as faculty and students from Rowan University, Stockton College, Westminster Choir College and New York University.
